Just got my first SS conical in the mail this week.

Nice.

Yea...I'm pretty stoked! Got an amazing deal on it. Bought it on Ebay new for less than 1/2 the price I've seen on any other web site or my local home brew store. Go to ebay and type in conical fermenter. The seller you'll be looking for is homebrewhousediscount. I got my 7.5 G for $250. He had 12.5 G fermenters that were going for around $300. Its still a lot of money but my mother in law got me a visa gift card for my birthday so it was very little out of pocket for me. I think I wound up spending $35 or so!!! :) I figure even if I use this for a year or two I should still be able to sell it for a good amount and parlay that money into a bigger one. Anyway, no more dealing with glass carboys!!! Yeast management, dry hopping, letting it ride instead of transferring into secondary, my brewing process should get a little easier. Now...I just need to kick up a pump somewhere and I'll be good!!! Happy brewing everyone!

Cheba, how do the welds look on those things. Some ebay conical guys seem to be pretty bad.

I’ll be attempting to squeeze in a melomel made with lehua blossom honey from my hives, carambola (star fruit) from my trees, and Puna rainwater from my rainwater catchment system.

Between a Boy Scout Camporee Friday night, the NLCS game Saturday night, and NFL Sunday it’s going to be a tight fit.   The yeast starters are ready (three 1.5 litre wine jugs – two iterations), the fermenter (a ten gallon Volrath SS stock pot) is sanitized and a 4-pack of Dogfishhead 90 Minute is chilled.  Yeah baby!

Go Giants!  Go Dolphins!  & thank God for DirecTv Sunday Ticket!

'Brewed 10 gallons of late hop IPA today and hit all the numbers.  Yeah!  Used palisades and santiam hops that I won in the Cmdr SAAZ competition two weeks ago.  (Thanks!)  Pitched Thames Valley in half and and Belgian Strong 1388 in the other half.

Not brewing this weekend, but I did start converting my previous 2-tap kegerator into a fermentation chamber. Can't wait to be able to brew lagers all year round.

Went to the cider mill yeasterday, and helped with the club pressing.  We did about 190 gallons.  I bought 5.

This is the second year we did this.  The cider mill is a small family operation.  They have some heirloom varieties that are good for hard cider.  It is a win-win for them and the club.  Most of the apples used for the pressing are not "pretty", so they can't be sold by the bag to customers.  Those make good cider, and we are willing to help work and buy the juice.  It was a good day, and there were 3 pressings: Tart, Sweet (which had a tart finish), and Super Sweet (many were looking to make apfelwein from this).

Drew,

Pretty solid. They're clean for the most part. There was couple little beads on the port weld but I dont think it'll be a problem. I filled it for the first time today! Cant wait take this thing for a spin over the next week!

Envious. I grew up in Michigan and miss the cider season. Cant get fresh cider out here in Phoenix.

Decided to take the day off and get a brew in today.  Got an ESB in the fermenter.  Got a pot of marinara and meatballs finishing up in the oven.  And I'm sippin on a beer.  On a normal day I still wouldn't be home for another hour and a half.  I love days off.
