scratch inside mash tun
« on: December 04, 2010, 02:38:54 pm »
despite diligent efforts to avoid scratching the inside of my mash tun (gott cooler), i've noticed a couple of small scratches.  is this something to worry about?

many thanks...

Aside from the aestehetics, no. Mash tuns don't need to be sterilized, as the wort will be boiled afterwards.

+1 don't worry  Scatches in the mash tun are not a big deal.  You will be boiling the wort so there is no worry of contamination from the mash tun.

Tubercle just dumps and rinses. No worries about scrubbing super clean or scratches. Anything that might be in there is going to meet a death by boiling in an hour or so. Not long enough to get a foothold.

I find the red coolers are more susceptible to scratching than the blue ones :)

One scratch?  I must have 20 in mine...guess I better stop stirring my mash with a pitchfork!
