Sometimes Supply Outpaces Demmand....
« on: October 10, 2011, 09:56:25 am »
I love to brew but lately I have been getting ahead of myself...

I took inventory yesterday and right now on tap I have...

1/2 keg of a Union Jack
1 keg of English Brown
1/2 keg of Mild
1 keg of ESB

in the tanks...

10 gallons of Marzen
5 gallons of Obsidian Stout Clone
10 gallons of Trippel

No one in my house drinks beer except me and we don't have a lot of company.

I'm guessing I have about half a year of beer (I think I like to brew more then I like to drink)

I always have more beer sitting around than I can drink in 6 months.  It's sad, but it's not going to stop me from brewing.  I'm trying to get better at giving beer away, so I'm taking kegs to the neighbor's more often and starting to throw more parties.

I have the opposite problem.  I have a handful of people who drink almost all of the beer I brew.  I usually get a few of them but I am definitely on the supplier side of things.  I guess the best thing is they ask for seconds so that is good.

Usually by March, I have at least a dozen kegs of beer ready for NHC. Next year I will have more. It's going to be a busy winter ahead, but I enjoy it.

The only thing that ends up slowing me down is lack refrigerated space... I can store about 10 kegs.

I would brew more but usually have to drink the bulk of my beer. A good batch won't last long. I'm filling all my kegs this winter however. ;D

I can normally balance, but since I switched to AG on the new HERMS rig, I'm at it every Sunday. As a result I've got 8 full kegs in the kegerator, another one sitting out, 2 batches in secondary and 2 more in primary.  Its definitely time for a party.

I am blessed with such good friends who will always come to my aid to kick some kegs...  ;D

I started brewing small batches just so I could keep up with myself and I'm still swimming in beer.

I was worried I would run out during our Oktoberfest this year.  We made it through that night but the beer in the keg fridge is all we have on hand.  Once the weather finally cools off I'll fill 10 of my 14 kegs by New Years.  I try to have beer in all 14 by April EOM to get us through the hot summer months.

Too much beer always seems like a good problem to have to me.  It means I need to have a party!

sometimes i wonder if i drink too much or brew too little...
i'm OK with a beer or 2 a day. that's better than saving it up and trying to have 14 once a week, right?!?

I get ahead and then usually the helpers help themselves (with my permission, of course).  If I have some bigger beers, they usually last a while, but the session stuff usually goes quicker than I can re-stock.  A keg can go in a few days with that stuff.
What I am finding is that I have an overload of craft brews that people bring as compensation....but they drink my beer instead of any of the crafts.

All in all, a good problem to have.

Cheers!

I do and do not have this problem. I struggle to find storage space for the bottle of mead and big beers that I have for keeping but rarely manage to seemlessly transition from one session brew to another with out a dry spell. I only have 2 kegs and one is dedicated to soda water so that may be part of the problem. I could bottle, and do sometimes, but I the bottles tend to fill up with barley wine etc.

I had a bunch of brews planned, and then my sister gave me two of her batches that she thought she was going to use for a wedding.  I feel like I have to get through some of it before brewing my next batch, but I keep going out of town on the weekends.  I'm don't have quite as much surplus as you do, but I do have another couple batches waiting to be made because I have too much.
