The week of March 14, Idaho House Bill 646 passed its final legislative hurdle and was sent to the Governor’s office, where Governor Lee signed the bill into law on March 22. It will go into effect July 1, 2022.

This straightforward piece of legislation expands the homebrewing statute in the state to include “mead, cider, and other fermented fruit juice beverages for personal use,” along with beer and wine which were already covered in the statute. Snake River Home Brewers Club in Boise were behind the legislation.

The law continues to limit production to 200 gallons per calendar year if there are two or more adults residing in the household; 100 gallons per year if there is one adult in the household.
