Each year the AHA finds two or three recipes to highlight for Big Brew.  Here are the recipes for Big Brew 2010.

2010 Big Brew Recipes

Ask most professional craft brewers and they will tell you they started by making beer at home. Homebrewing is often credited with the resurgence of flavorful beer in America, and this year’s recipes for Big Brew (American wheat beer, Scottish Export 80/-, and Oktoberfest) are a great example of this. 

This year on National Homebrew Day, across the nation, professional craft brewers are encouraged tobrew the Big Brew wheat beer recipe and serve it during American Craft Beer Week May 17-23, 2010.  The recipe, dubbed American Craft Beer Wheat is adapted from the new release by Brewers Publications, “Brewing with Wheat: The ‘Wit’ and ‘Weizen’ of World Wheat Beer Styles” by Stan Hieronymus. The book will be available February 22nd, but AHA members can get 20% off the cover price by ordering before the release date.  Homebrewers who brew the wheat beer recipe will be able to compare their beer with that of their local craft brewery during the American Craft Beer Week festivities.

The second and third recipe for the 2010 Big Brew (Scottish Export 80 Shilling and Rocktoberfest) are offered in honor of Greg Noonan, who passed away last fall.  Greg was the author of “Scotch Ale” and “New Brewing Lager Beer” books, and with his then-wife Nancy was the founder, co-owner and brewmaster of the Vermont Pub & Brewery (VPB) in Burlington, VT.  This year also marks the 200th anniversary of the first Oktoberfest celebration in Germany, and what better way to show our appreciation than to brew this unique all-Munich malt recipe, Rocktoberfest from Greg Noonan’s Vermont Pub and Brewery.  It seems only fitting that we raise a toast to Greg as we brew the recipe from “Scotch Ale,” and/or the Rocktoberfest recipe.
