Sanke tap / Ball lock gas line adapter
« on: October 24, 2012, 04:34:02 pm »
So I brewed a Stout for a friend of mine, I basically need an adapter for his gas line from his regulator, that fits a standard Sanke tap, to fit my homebrew ball lock quick disconnect.  I already have the liquid covered.  I found this thing:

Fyi, they normally have commercial kegs, but every now and then I'll brew em some.  That's probably their best bet.  But, I hate to spend $30+ just to attach his gas line.

It's sort of hard to discuss without part numbers, but the two pieces on the right replace your barbed fittings on the sanke coupler.  Then, you convert your liquid and gas lines to the female flared fittings.  That way, you can swap out the threaded soda QDs pictured with the threaded fittings you put on your sanke coupler.  All of my lines have the flared swivel nuts on them for ease of swapping out couplers.
I've consumed all of my home brew and still can't relax!  Now what!

Personally, I think I would split the gas line and run one to the ball lock gas fitting and one to the sanke coupler.  No switching required.  This should do it.

I hooked my sanke taps up with barbs and have regretted it ever since.

Was that just an FYI comment?   8)  Those above aren't barbs.

Yeah, good idea Tom, I saw a stainless T I've had forever in my supply chest and considered using it.  Since it's stainless you could very well use it for the liquid line, too.  I ended up just removing the gas line from the barb and "re-barbing" their gas.  Took me about ten minutes to do the gas and liquid.  Easy enough, and they ended up already having all the fittings they needed to convert it.

Yes.  While my eye sight may be going, I did notice that those weren't barbs and they are the adapters I should bought a couple years back.

To be honest, the only portion where the barbs are truly a PITA is on the tap lines.  It's a pain to have two cobra taps dedicated to sankes when I don't use then very often.  The gas lines all have quick disconnects, so it's easy to swap between ball lock and sanke.

I just didn't think it through when I put the taps together.
