Ok, I'll stick with 1tsp but let it settle 3 days. See if that does the trick.

On the other hand I use a full packet of Knox gelatin and it clears overnight.

Oh the options. I'll try patience next time then bump the gel if not satisfied

More than one way to skin a cat I guess.  Gelatin's cheap so go for more if you like.  Jeffy does more lagers than I do I think so he's probably got a better system for clearing it up.

Edited because I'm a moron and spelled Jimmy, not Jeffy.

I've only tried making lagers last spring for about 6 batches. But this winter I'll be trying again. By then I ought to have the gel thing figured out. I'll be trying for my version of FS Session red label. The only commercial lager I really care for other than Urquell or Stella

I have gotten great results previously by just cold crashing the primary for a few days, then transferring to keg and chilling a few more days. First few pints cloudy, crystal clear after that.

Then things took a turn. I made a Mocktoberfest marzen-style ale with Wyeast 2565 Kolsch yeast. Tasted great after three weeks in the primary, but cloudier than Los Angeles on a summer day. Cold crashing the primary didn't do squat, so I used gelatin added to the fermenter and continued to cold crash for two more days. Cleared up appreciably when transferred to keg, a few more days and it was beautiful.

I won't use gelatin as a standard process, but it worked great when I needed it.
I'm only here for the beer....

A while back I forgot whirlfloc in an APA. We have it on tap now and there's a huge difference in cloudiness from normal. I'm sold now on whirlfloc. I still only use gel if I want one crystal clear, like a blonde

I've had good success with the following:

Cold crash 2 days after ferm and dry hop finished
soak 1 tsp gelatin for 30 mins, then microwave until it just starts to boil
start transfer into keg and add gelatin solution
set my c02 for desired volume of carbonation
walk away

In 5 days I have crystal clear, carbonated beer. I do adjust hops for fining. Typically 25% increase in late and dry hop additions seems to make up for any loss of flavor and aroma.

just rack off the top of the sludge into your bottling bucket. You can add a little additional yeast to the bottling bucket if you want but there should be a little left in suspension even after the gelatin
