You need to get out on those beautiful Oregon trails Denny.

Yeah' but that's not as easy as walking into the guest room and getting on the treadmill.  I need something so easy that I can't make excuses not to do it.  Besides, rainy season is starting!

I don't know.  Our treadmill is in the basement family room and I still do a fine job of avoiding it regularly.

Where the heck are we going?  And what's with this hand basket?

I checked: you burn about 1 beer per half hour on the treadmill.
Plus you spill some...

Yep, our exercise bike is right in the living room facing the TV. Too bad I don't watch much TV...

One beer per mile. I still drink too much but I can at least rationalize it by saying that if I was really out of shape I couldn't do 20+ miles per week.

In real life I only drink one or two beers a night during the week, sometimes abstaining completely. But I do tend to over do it during the weekends. It is easy to do when you have a nearly unlimited supply of beer. That said, recently I have been noticing that hangovers take way too long to recover from so I am starting to limit my intake on the weekend as well.

Of course, I just got back from a trip to Seattle visiting Tom Schmidlin where I pretty much tried to drink the entire town dry in 2.5 days. Tom brews some excellent beers, stop by Post Doc brewing if you are in the area!

I'm heading up to Seattle in about a month and another trip to Postdoc is on the agenda.

I wish we could have coordinated a meeting my friend. But I'm planning a trip to Portland sometime next year and hope we can meet up!

My EP heart doc told me I could have 2 a day or up to 14 a week - just don't save them up and drink the last days' savings in one day.

In our cases, I think you do need to pay attention to the ABV. IMO, when a doctor tells you 2 drinks a day max, that isn't an 8% IPA. Once you start adding up the ABV, 3 IPA's at that level is like 6 bud lights.

Maybe that's why Pete's ten beers a week works. If you are varying the beers you drink: a bitter, next night an IPA, then a pale ale or an American wheat, then the ten beers a week won't really add up to over the doctor's two a night guideline, even if a couple/few of them are big beers.

I definitely count beers during the week, but on the weekend I'm not going to bother unless I'm actually trying to lose weight. I ran the bottling line at Yellowhaammer yesterday and knocked back a few low fills (normally don't drink when I'm working but Saturday are excused ;) ) I'm going to lift weights and clean the garage this morning, then watch some football this afternoon and cook dinner for the family tonight. I'll prolly knock back several, but not so much that I'll feel like crap tomorrow. I may have a beer or two Monday through Thursday with dinner or before bed. I'm in good physical shape, work out regularly and work my ass off to boot so if I want a damn beer, well, bny golly, I'm gonna drink it!

A standard drink is 12 fluid ounces of 5% ABV or the equivalent (6 fluid ounces of 10% ABV, 1.5 fluid ounces of 40% ABV, etc.).

A 16 oz. pour of an 8% IPA is actually approximately 2.13 drinks.

To calculate how many standard drinks are in a given serving of alcohol, I find it easiest to multiply the serving size in fluid ounces by the ABV (as a whole number, not a percentage) and divide by 60.

I hear you Keith. I am taking a few days off to finish a construction project at home and have been having a few every night after busting ass all day making slate countertops, installing appliances etc. I still keep track though and if I go over I start again next week. I'm not trying to deprive myself of alcohol, just forming better habits. I never plan on not having a beer when I want one, just asking myself if I really want one or just am having one because its after work, or after dinner or whatever.
