What I like about the EasyDens is the accuracy and small sample size. I don’t own one but I can see where that could be a slight advantage over a hydrometer.

What I dislike about the Tilt is that the FG is rarely correct. I get globs of yeast attached to mine that throws off the FG reading dramatically. For example Tilt reported .999 FG for a Czech Lager I just kegged. The actual FG was 1.012 measured by a finish hydrometer. It is still usefull to display a trend on a chart so fermentation completion or a target SG for spunding, a hop charge, or something can be determined without taking a sample.  Plus, I like to monitor the fermentation gravity near real time.  ...but don’t trust the FG.

It's getting very popular for people to make a sport out of arguing over how other people make their beer.  I would assume that an adult would see a post by someone and disagree about it and either politely suggest another opinion or simply not comment on it.  Who are these people who love confrontation and combative behavior?  This is not new either.  I understand everyone is cooped up but this predates any virus.

We were doing pretty good for a few weeks. I noticed a calmer tone. Then...boom!

Like I said - I suspect everyone's on edge and going slightly stir crazy. I've been at home for 35 days and I'm slowly losing it.

I get it but we're better than this.

Yeah, sorry about that. It was a rough day in our house yesterday, with an unemployment claim denial. The thought of spending $400 to measure the gravity of my beer was just too much.

I wasn't specifically pointing at you.  It's more widespread than that and it's been going on for awhile.  People produce beer at home and if they like it, they like it.  If they decide at some point that they don't like it then they look around for information on how to improve things and that's when they're open to advice and new ideas.  Otherwise, can't people just enjoy the hobby, enjoy the beer and enjoy how we all interact here?

Sorry about your situation.

Read on another forum:

I'm getting stir crazy being stuck at home. Found a spider and struck up a conversation with him. He told me he was in web design. [drum roll please]

I always wondered why dogs were so excited about going outside and going on car rides. Now I know. [thank you. I'm here all week 😁]

Sent to me...

Just be careful because people are going crazy from being in lock down! Actually, I've just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee and we all agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything. Certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end the iron straightened me out as she said everything will be fine, no situation is too pressing. The vacuum was very unsympathetic... told me to just suck it up, but the fan was more optimistic and hoped it would all soon blow over! The toilet looked a bit flushed when I asked its opinion and didn’t say anything but the door knob told me to get a grip.😬 The front door said I was unhinged and finally, the curtains told me to ........yes, you guessed it 😝.....pull myself together!

Cheers you guys.  A little levity helps greatly.

And I use tilts, but not for accuracy - rather to monitor the end of fermentation without sampling.  No change is no change however you put it.

Thinking good thoughts for all of you facing adversity in this crazy period....

For what it is worth - I have been blessed, because my daughter and her 3.5 month old baby girl are staying with my wife and me, while my son in law is battling things on the frontlines as an ICU doctor and surgeon on the west side of Chicago - he doesn’t want his wife and daughter exposed to the risk he brings home with him.  All of them are currently safe, but I can’t shake the sadness that he is facing in missing out on witnessing his little baby girl’s early development,  yet, then I quickly feel terrible and self-centered for not thinking about how many families have it so much worse.  Let’s keep our forum civil, light-hearted and fun like it typically is and let’s try to remember those who are suffering in many ways from the direct and indirect effects of this crisis.  End of rant, sorry.
