Extract Recipe with Amarillo Hops and Gambrinus Honey Malt?
« on: October 12, 2020, 02:35:12 pm »
I've always brewed pre-packaged extract with specialty grains kits from various places.  Today I have 8 oz of Amarillo hop pellets (10.3% AA) and a pound of Gambrinus Honey specialty malt (uncrushed).  I'd like to brew something with them (5 gallon batch size), but I've not created a recipe from scratch before.  Is Amarillo appropriate for a single hop ale? Any ideas for the rest of the malt bill?

Amarillo would be great for that.  I'd advieee you to go easy on the honey malt, especially if there are crystal malts in whatever recipe you end up with.

Some base malt to do a mini-mash with the honey malt.  It isn't clear what you are shooting for so making malt recommendations beyond using some base malt doesn't make much sense.

Amarillo is a great single hop.

My next brew will be a single hop with Amarillo.

Amarillo is a great single hop.

I wasn’t sure what I was shooting for either.  After doing a lot more searching, I think I’ll go with a Gumballhead clone with the hops and save the honey malt for the next brew.
