This well balanced, yet complex porter from Big Timber Brewing Company derives all of its flavor from loads of specialty malts. It was one of three beers available when the brewery opened in 2014. The recipe has remained virtually unchanged, and this beer and can only be found in West Virginia!

Big Timber Brewing Porter | Robust Porter

Ingredients

  • For 5 gal (18.9 L)
    • 7.5 lb (3.4 kg) 2-row malt
    • 1.75 lb (0.79 kg) White Wheat
    • 1.75 lb (0.79 kg) Brown malt
    • 8 oz (0.23 kg) Coffee malt
    • 8 oz (0.23 kg) Extra Dark Crystal malt
    • 8 oz (0.23 kg) Chocolate malt
    • 0.63 oz (18 g) Magnum hops, 11% a.a. (80 min)
    • 0.5 oz (14 g) EKG hops, 5% a.a. (20 min)
    • 0.5 oz (14 g) EKG hops, 5% a.a. (5 min)
    • English Ale Yeast

    Specifications

    • Original Gravity: 1.065
    • Final Gravity: 1.015
    • ABV: 6.5%
    • IBU: 33
    • SRM: 28

    Directions

    Mash at 150° F (66° C) for 60 minutes. Add calcium carbonate to reach mash pH ~5.4. Boil 90 minutes. Ferment at 68° F (20° C).
