It was my first lager, so I'm sure the issues were mainly mine. The suggestions to leave out the caramunich started as soon as I started asking questions prior to brewing it. Fingers crossed for these 2 batches running the fast (er) lager method for them

grow enough yeast?
At the time I pitched, I thought it was. I made a 3L starter for 5G. It was well within Mark's order of magnitude as compared to yeastcalc.com & mrmalty.com

Fermenting: Nothing (ugh!)
Conditioning: Nothing (UGH!)
In keg: Nothing (Double UGH!)
In the works:  House IPA, Dark Mild, Ballantine Ale clone(still trying to work this one into the schedule)

sounds fine.  hmm lagers are fickle sometimes.

I am having one right now dated 8-11-15.  I like this beer and I usually find U.S. O'Fest beers a little too malty, kind of the same malt flavor as an Irish Red if you know what I mean.  This is more bread crust and considerably lighter in body than most.
I'd say the color is light, maybe 6.  Dark gold would be a close descriptor.

Good description...as I'd expect!  Mine is dated 7/27 and I had pretty much the same impression.

So having a nice 22oz ($6) SN o'fest on tap right now....totally different beer vs what I had in the 6/30 bottles. This is much more appealing and balanced, and no harsh bite at the end. Little darker also it appears.

Mmmmmm sounds good.

I still can't get over how different the SN o'fest was on tap. They should have never let that 6/30 batch out the door IMO.

Warsteiner was horrid and Sam Adams tastes like drinking beer while
Sucking on a butterscotch candy.

How's the Victory festbier? Almost grabbed it yesterday but went back to the SN well instead.

Yeah. One of the best keg beers I ever had was a fresh keg of Celebration about 10 years ago. It was very noticeably better than any bottled Celebration I've ever had. That keg was sucking air pretty quickly !

Victory was pretty good. It's a wee heavy and very malty, but not sweet. I liked the left hand the best .

I'm far from a connoisseur of the style but I enjoyed the Left Hand Oktoberfest 6 pack I picked up last week. Just a touch less roasty and it would've been even better.
