Melting.
It is the kind of weather where all manner of canid collected carnage and deposits
are suddenly exposed across the lawn. :o
Gross.  Dog poop removal from several months is a nasty job.

More snow on the way.  It has been fun skiing out the back door.

So they are naming winter storms now?  Good Grief...Nemo.
Looks like a beauty.  I love massive storms, but I also have hydraulics available for snow removal. :D
Have fun!

I'm right in the pocket that is expected to get 30 inches or more. As long as we don't lose power (and therefore heat and water) then we'll be fine. Hope everyone else up in the Northeast stays safe!

Well, since you guys are going to be locked up inside, here's what is in store for me tomorrow afternoon:
3110
  16
means the swell will be coming from the northwest (310 degrees), be 10 feet high, and there will be 16 seconds between waves.  10 foot swells in the ocean means 15-20 foot wave faces when breaking onshore.

Wow.  Swell height and direction?  Good stuff.
Pretty cool as an islander, in this day and age, you are afforded such forecast precision.

NOAA rocks,
and folks that use it heavily
probably don't mind paying taxes right?. ;)

I thought this graph was cool.  Shocked actually at the relative lack of snow on the ground across the "lower 48"

Looks to change a bit in the NE.  Whooee. 8)  Stay cool.

Those two panels are just the tip of the weather data iceberg.  With the information available from NOAA-NWS and a few other web sites I can do a much better job as a meteorologist than 99% of the talking heads on TV.

But really that's not such a big deal.  They only get current conditions right less than half the time anyway.   :o

The data is available to anybody with a computer, for free, in real time.  Understanding what it all means just takes practice and experience.  The "experts" are making guesses just like the rest of us.  No one controls the weather.

We had about 5" of snow last nite...the ground was warm and they said it was 8 inches....
I think they fudged some but even so it was welcome moisture that was sorely needed.

Ended up with hip-high snow on most of my property, with drifts in the chest-to-shoulder height range. Thankfully, I was in the area got got more snow accumulation than wind so we never lost power. Forecast is for rain today and overnight lows above freezing, so that should hopefully clear out the bulk of what's sitting on my driveway without causing too much icing issues. Sure glad I don't have water problems in my basement, though...

Ended up with about 20" but I was shocked we didn't lose power with the wind blowing like it did.  We were under a blizzard warning for about 24 hours.  Spent a few hours on Saturday snowblowing my driveway and my neighbors.

The area outside my basement where I brew was completely bare.  I guess the wind does have it positive points as well.  I didn't have any shoveling to do when I brewed a Pliny the elder clone on Sunday.   :D

Here in DFW I have been deprived of winter. It's been in the 50s and above since mid-January. It's been almost 80 several days. We had some snow -- even a white Christmas -- which was nice but it was unseasonably warm going into winter and coming back out.

The only redeeming part of the warm weather is that all my hop plants are already peeking out of the ground and the stores are starting to get in plants so I hope to have a long growing season this year but I hate the heat here and it will probably be in the 90s here by mid-April, which makes me very sad.

Yup. I mowed my yard for the first time this year yesterday. Looking to get some tomatoes in the ground perhaps this weekend.

Highs about 80 and lows in the lower 60's this week.  Nice time to be here.

If the radar is correct, we should be getting 1-2" of snow an hour in about 45 minutes.  They are predicting 7-9" total followed by 25 MPH winds with gusts up to 40MPH.  Just another beautiful day in Iowa.  8^)
