I want to go ahead and vent right now that its a little irritating to hold out for a promotion to join, finally give up, and then have a promotion a month later.  ???

Email Kathryn Porter..she's been known to make allowances....no guarantees, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

You also get discounts for brewing ingredients.  ;)

Do you get discounts on ingredients at your LHBS, or do the online stores have them as well?

I'm not due to renew until June but already know I will.  I may also find a rally around that time to go hang out, renew my membership, and taste some great beer.

Darkside, Funny thing happened today while I was searching around NYC for Bock yeast (didn't find it but I did grab some octoberfest). I was at "Hydroponics and Homebrew too" in Queens and asked if they give discounts for AHA members and got a lecture from the owner about how homebrew clubs put everyone out of business with their requests for deeper and deeper discounts. Seemed like a pretty bogus story to me.

I know that mailorder places will cut you a break but you'll have to ask. If you really want deep discounts go to your local brewery, or get in on a group buy with your local homebrew club.

It can take a while.  If they don't show up soon, email Kathryn Porter and ask her.

I've used my Pub Discount card at a few places: Southampton Publick House in Southampton, NY; Portsmouth Brewery in Portsmouth, NH; CH Evans in Albany and I've tried to use at other places (with great embarrassment) at some places, like John Harvard's in Framingham, MA; Northampton Brewery in Northampton, MA; and the Gardiner Ale House in Gardiner, MA, which aren't members of the program.  I mentioned to them that they should join the program. 15% off here and $5.00 off there really helps and promotes their brewery by word of mouth.  It's a great perk!

I've been a member for many years and appreciate both the magazine and the work of the organization.
I'm thankful Sam Adams Lager showed up just in time to blend with my first homebrew efforts.
After many years of extract brewing I found that all grain produced better beer for me. I stove-top mash and fly sparge but I'm thinking of moving into batch sparging.
Currently I've got Waldo Lake Amber (subbing Columbus for Magnum bittering hops), Ordinary Bitter and Elderberry Mead fermenting, and my first ever Kolsch on deck for the weekend.
Cheers,
Dave

Just became a member a few weeks ago.  The Zymurgy subscription alone is worth the price.  The discounts are an added bonus.  I should have become a member a long time ago.  I am looking forward to the National Homebrewers Conference this coming year.
