Brad Smith

Dr. Brad Smith is the founder and author of BeerSmith brewing software. He is also the host of the BeerSmith Podcast, author of the BeerSmith blog and newsletter, and a writer for both Brew Your Own and Craft Beer and Brewing magazines. Brad has penned over 500 articles on brewing, hosted 320 podcasts, and presented in a variety of forums, including Homebrew Con, BYO Bootcamps, and international events. Brad's BeerSmithRecipes.com site hosts nearly two million beer recipes, and he is also principle author of the BeerXML recipe exchange standard and BrewWiki wiki.

Brad holds a PhD in computer engineering from the University of New Mexico, Master's in engineering from Boston University, Master's in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College, Master's in business from St. Mary's University, Bachelor of Science from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute, and was a fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Draper Laboratory. Brad is also a retired Air Force Colonel and commanded the Space Vehicles Lab and Phillips Lab at Kirtland Air Force Base as well as the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program.

Drew Beechum joined the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) back in 2001 to help organize the Los Angeles Homebrew Conference with his club, The Maltose Falcons. He's written for Zymurgy® and other beer magazines, been a club officer for 25 years, served on the AHA Governing Committee for nearly a decade, written seven books on the art of home fermentation, and hosts a regular podcast—Experimental Brewing. He was the 2023 recipient of the AHA Governing Committee Recognition Award. He lives in Pasadena, California with his wife and a small pack of dogs and cats.
